I find that this product is best for STAYING asleep. It doesn't make you drowsey, exactly. However, it does allow you to maintain your sleep through the early morning hours. It's great for sleeping. When your eyes open it's easy to fall back to sleep. However, the effects build over time, and if too much is taken, the drowsiness continues into the day. That's way I find about 1/2 a pill the ideal dose.

As a professional Naturopath, I'm impressed with this product as a lovely alternative to sleeping tablets etc. My clients find that a tablet before bed,combined with a short walk in darkness to assist natural pineal gland processes, provides a relaxing, drug-free sleep, and a fresh, non-groggy awakening. As a precaution against the possible development of pineal gland 'laziness', I'm recommending that it be taken only when a sleep deficit has built up over a number of nights.

Extremely effective - I come to the U.S. from Australia regularly. I combine a half-tablet of Schiff's melatonin with a prescribed sedative from my doctor (Temazapam) during the flight and at bedtime after arrival. Jetlag zapped! Note that it seems to be the combination of the two that works - using just Melatonin or a sedative alone isn't nearly as effective.
