Hi, I am hoping that many some experts in nutritional heath could help me answer some of my questions!! Why do people take l-arginine suppliment? I welcome any disagreement or commend with regard to my following statement. I am currently a master student involved in biomedical research of stroke / global ischemic brain injury. The main theme of my research revolves around the pathway of nitric oxide, product of L-arginine and oxygen. Though still being investigated, most of the literature published to-date have shown enhanced nitric oxide production with L-arginine supplement aggravates the degree of brain damage during the recovery phase of stroke injury. Leading to paralysis, loss of speech, vision, memory.. from stroke). However, on the bright side, when taken normally, enhaced nitric oxide production as a result of L-arginine intake can lead to blood vascular dilation (like viagra, increase blood flow to blood vessels that are suceptible to l-arginine stimulation.) However, a person with weak heart, taking l-arginine can potentially lead to severe hypotension ( dangerous drop in blood pressure) that may treatens life. Though, L-arginine is a semi-essential and naturally occuring amino acid in the body. A delicate balance exists in the body to achieve perfect harmony and health.
