Mu (mooo)16 Tea is a beverage prepared from 16 herbs as blended and prepared by the founder of modern day macrobiotics, George Ohsawa. Mr. Ohsawa spent a long period of his life studying classical texts of Oriental medicine including the traditional herbal medicine of China. Each of the 16 herbs has been used in medicinal teas in Asia since ancient times. Mr. Ohsawa combined these into a balanced and bracing blend.
Each of the herbs in Mu 16 offers its own gift, from flavor to healthful qualities. Many herbs become more effective when combined with other herbs and produce an essence that would not be present in any of the herbs alone. By balancing and combining these herbs rather than recommending them separately, Mr. Ohsawa created a tea to enjoy their healthful properties while promoting strength and balance.
EDEN Mu 16 Herb Tea is made by first drying the apricot kernel and rehmannia for 18 minutes at 175ípC. These two ingredients require longer roasting time than the remaining herbs. The remaining herbs are cleaned and chopped. Next, black sand is placed in a roaster and heated. The remaining ingredients are roasted, in the roaster containing sand, for 20 to 40 seconds at a temperature of 150ípC. to 245ípC. The sand is then filtered out through a fine screen. Roasting the herbs with hot sand ensures even roasting. The herbs become become more stable when thoroughly roasted. The herbs are then allowed to cool. EDEN Mu 16 Tea comes in unbleached bags made from natural fiber. Each bag, eight in a package, makes a large pot of tea. Because you steep leaves and boil roots: This tea bag should be boiled for at least ten (10), or more minutes.
