Derived from four varieties of Arctic and northern deep-water fish--anchovies, sardines, and mackerel - omega 3-rich fish oils have long been considered "brain food," because the brain itself is made up of approximately 50 percent fat (about 33 percent from cholesterol and about 15 percent from essential fatty acids). Fish oils also have beneficial effects on immune function, learning disabilities and blood chemistry.
