Hawthorne (Crataegus oxycantha) is a small thorny tree or shrub that produces brilliant red clusters of berries. Native to the Mediterranean region including North Africa and all of Europe and Central Asia, Hawthorne can now be found in many areas of North America.
According to Christian legend, the Crown of Thorns was believed to be made of Hawthorne. Therefore, the herb was thought to posess miraculous health properties. In ancient Greece, Hawthorne was a symbol of hope and happiness, while in Rome it was considered a potent charm. Both ancient and modern herbalists have succesfully used Hawthorne for its food and health benefits.

The best way to make a good tasting cup of tea is by the infusion method. Place one tea bag into a cup and add no more than 6 oz. of boiling water. Let steep for 3 minutes and remove the bag. Press the bag before removing to enhance the flavor. Add honey to sweeten.
