Description: Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) has nervine, anti-spasmodic, calmative, hypotensive, and emmenagogue (an herb that stimulates menstruation) properties and have been used traditionally for insomnia, headache, hyperactivity, hyper-excitability, hypertension, heart disease, after birth pains, anxiety, tension, stress, nervous stomach, palpitations, PMS, menstrual cramps, muscle spasms, sleep disorders, urinary tract disorders, depression, bronchial spasms, lingering coughs, and as a sleep aid.
